malik/MARLON RUSS
Marlon had appeared "Heart Beats" at the Kennedy Center & "BrotherHOODs" on tour. After a reading downtown, I cast him in the film.
patrice/MAYA LYNN ROBINSON
After Maya Lynne's work in Christopher Shinn's "Four" at Studio Theater, I reached out and begged her to play Patrice.
fats/LORENZO JONES
The last role cast -- and the hardest. When Lorenzo showed up cold to audition, I thought he was totally wrong.
Instead, I was.
lady/WILMA LYNN HORTON
Wilma replaced one ACT'er for the workshop of "Family Business" and another playing Lady in later readings and the film.
malik/JUSTIN RUFF
Justin understudied one role in "Heart Beats" & two in "BrotherHOODS" before originating his own role in the "Chump ChangeS" film.
terrence/DAVID A. RICHARDSON
After playing Terrence in every reading except the first, David completed the "BrotherHOODS" tour & returned for the film
selma/TEDDI FLORENCE
Initially, I found Teddi too young and beautiful for Sean's mother, but her awesome audition changed my mind...and the role.
latoya/LEILA CHYNNA PREE
Chynna was already an ACT veteran, having appeared in the workshop production of "Christmas Gifts" before her role as Latoya.
demetrius/AARON BROWN
Despite his role, Aaron was actually one of the youngest members of the cast -- also the only one with whom I've lost touch.
