During our three decades of existence to date, African-American Collective Theater has presented nearly 150 original LGBTQ+ works. Although we’ve generally enjoyed a fairly high batting average, not every project has been equally successful and/or well-received.
But. like the proverbial prodigal child, it is frequently those problematic pieces that linger on the mind. It’s hard not to wonder what went wrong with a particular project. Was it the initial concept, the writing or direction, the casting, the timing? A combination of those different factors, or none of the above?
Perhaps it's a bit masochistic, but in addition to celebrating our successes, we thought it would be interesting to revisit some of our less-successful experiments -- to see if hindsight provides any insight as to what, or where they went wrong.
To that end, our anniversary project for September will be an online program that takes a second look at some of ACT’s “misfires.” It’s an admittedly “quirky’ idea in itself, but we invite you to be a little adventurous and join us -- and also possibly share your thoughts and theories during the talkback that follows
Join our MAILING LIST, or check back here later in September for the performance date and ticket info.
